The Office of Degree Management helps the university meet internal and external qualifications in developing new degrees, discontinuing degrees that are no longer needed, and implementing changes to existing degrees. In addition, the office facilitates changes to college, unit, and departmental names or functions for internal and external notification and/or approval.
Degree proposals require documentation and justification for internal review by college level and university level committees, commissions, University Council, and ultimately, the Board of Visitors for approval. The Office of Degree Management coordinates that effort in addition to providing information for review and approval to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). Drafts of proposals are sent to SCHEV during the internal review process to get feedback for improvement. The goal is that degree proposals will be ready for SCHEV submission in full compliance for final state approval soon after Virginia Tech internal authorization is secured.
The Office of Degree Management is within the Office of Enrollment and Degree Management, led by Wanda Hankins Dean, assistant vice president of enrollment and degree management. Dr. Robin Panneton, associate professor in the Department of Psychology, directs the Office of Degree Management.
