Academic Effectiveness

The Office of Academic Effectiveness helps Virginia Tech to strive for continuous improvement of academic and non-academic services which directly and indirectly affect delivery of the very best education to all students, in order to meet the university’s institutional mission and ongoing strategic plans. The Office of Assessment and Evaluation and the Center for Instructional Development and Education Research (CIDER) comprise this branch of the division.

The Office of Assessment and Evaluation designs, promotes, and facilitates a culture of continuous improvement through the use of assessment and evaluation. The reflective practices lead to evidence-based decision making.

The Center for Instructional Development and Education Research fosters the design, development, and implementation of disciplinary learner-centered instruction, promotes and recognizes excellence in higher education instruction, supports and conducts cutting-edge research on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and collaboratively advocates for a campus climate that values educating the whole student through effective, innovative and transformative instruction.
